Savvas Genitsaris

Dr. Savvas Genitsaris holds a Biology Degree in Biology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.) and an MSc in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation from Imperial College, London, UK. He has a Ph.D. in Biodiversity and Molecular Ecology from A.U.Th. He worked for more than two years as a post-doctoral researcher in the University of Littoral (ULCO) in France, where he focused his research in the investigation of biotic and abiotic interactions of marine microbes with the use of metagenomics and bioinformatics tools.

He was a research visitor in various academic facilities and universities, including the University of Milan, Cambridge University, the University of Thessaly, the Banyuls Research Institute (France), and the Pasteur Institute in Lille (France). His research interests are focused on the exploration of the biodiversity of microorganisms of all three Domains of Life in various ecosystems, including freshwater, marine and air systems, using metagenomics, DNA and RNA sequencing, bioinformatics and ecological tools.

He is a member of the international scientific societies of MikroBioKosmos, ISME and ASLO, he has teaching experience in the topics of biodiversity, biological concepts, bioinformatics, and methodology of study, and he has been a reviewer in various peer-reviewed journals.
