My research focuses on the response of soil subsystem, in terms of function and structure, to anthropogenic interventions such as grazing, extensive farming, desertification, pollution. I am also interesting on the ecosystem services provided by terrestrial areas and the actions by which these degraded areas could be restored taking into consideration both the ecological and the socioeconomic aspects of restoration. I teach the courses of population and community ecology, terrestrial ecology, restoration of natural ecosystems and ecotourism at graduated and post-graduated level. I have been involved in six EU and seven National projects; in three of them as coordinator.
From 1999 to 2005 I was a member of the Editorial Board (Managing Editor) of the electronic peer review journal “Web Ecology” supported by the European Ecological Federation. I am external reviewer in various Science Citation Impact (SCI) Journals. My publishing record includes 35 publications in SCI journals, 8 book chapters and more than 40 publications in conference proceedings.
