Eftichios S. Sartzetakis is Professor of Environmental Economics at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki. He has also taught at the Carleton University, Université Laval, University of British Columbia and Thompson Rivers University where he served as chairperson of the Department of Economics before returning to Greece in 2001. His research interests focus on environmental economics and management. He has published a number of papers in leading academic journals, he is member of scientific committees and editorial boards and he has coordinated a number of competitive research projects. He contributed to a number of national and international studies, including the Study of the Impact of Climate Change in Greece and the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment for which he received the Zayed International Prize for the Environment in 2005.
Prof. Sartzetakis served in a number of administrative positions and he is currently the Director of the MA in Economics, Director of the University’s Research Institute and Head of the Environmental Management Unit at the University of Macedonia. He is the founding Director of the MSc in Sustainable Development at the International Hellenic University. He provided consulting services to Ministries and public organization in Greece and Canada, served as a representative in international committees, such as the CSD, the ECE and the World Summit for SD in Johannesburg, and served as member in the Governing Boards of national bodies such as the Greek National Centre of the Environment and Sustainable Development and of the Green Fund.
