Strategic Planning

This course has multiple goals. First, it aims at developing students’ ability to incorporate environmental sustainability into strategic planning, policy-making and decision-making, not only at the firm level but also at the level of local, regional and national authorities. Second, it explores the links between the different levels of decision making (firms and government bodies at different levels) and provides the assessment methods and the tools necessary to support the decision-making processes. Third, it analyses the environmental regulatory process and examines how the process of strategic regulatory planning contributes to minimizing firms’ costs. Finally, it provides a framework for managers to predict regulatory outcomes in order to reduce the risk of exposure to a new regulatory framework and design business strategies that will derive a comparative advantage from regulatory change with respect to competition.
