Environmental Impact Assessment Print

This course aims to cover firstly the theory of EIA and context of its application. Taught lectures on screening, scoping, alternatives consideration, impact (prediction and evaluation), mitigation, and participation will be carried out during the two days to provide students with a complete background understanding of the EIA procedures. A brief overview of SEA regulations and minimum requirements will also be provided. During these two days students will be asked to carry out a scoping excercise as well as embark on a review of their own countries EIA regulations and implementation status. This course follows the teaching philosophy of learning by doing.  It aims to provide students with hands on experience and raise their awareness regarding the limitations of the process, their potential future role as environmental managers, as well as current best practice. Students will be provided with the theoretical background to the procedures, and requested to apply them in practice and critically review the outputs and procedures.
